Ilha de Tavira is a long sandy strip, very close, with 11 km long, the southern city of Tavira (**). Its areal limits the Natural Park of Ria Formosa (***). The entire island is a magnificent beach, suitable for all tastes. The island (beach) is very hot, bright, fine sand, with gentle waves and warm water. A paradise waiting for us.
The island has four beaches. From east to west, we find first the Praia da Ilha de Tavira (Tavira beach or simply), followed by the Earth's Beach Close, the Barril Beach and Beach Naked Man. Between Tavira and the beach of Barril beach naturism is tolerated, however, in the western beach of Barril (Naked Man on Beach), naturism is legal.
The beach at Tavira
With around a thousand people surveyed, is the site of the beach with more excitement, especially during the summer. With infrastructure to support tourism, the island has a campsite, vacation homes and transport boats from Tavira, Pier Four Waters along the river Gilão. On this tour you can see the fleet of fishing therein lies or runs well with areas of salt marshes, where the leg-long feed.

Access can also be made from the Four Waters. Here you can still visit the Mighty Mouse, near the mouth of the river Gilão, on its left bank. The site of the Four Waters is magnificent, especially when there are few tourists. With the bar that separates the island of Cabanas (**) from Tavira Island, the fort of the Rat, Arraial Ferreira Neto and the typical environment of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa.

To the west the island of Tavira close up, resulting in a stretch of sand about 50 feet wide, called the Narrow Land or Praia de Santa Luzia, be seen from this picturesque fishing village and tourist who makes the boat ride .
The beach is very narrow, of fine white sand, very extensive, offering peace and seclusion. The village of Santa Luzia is very nice.
Praia do Barril
To get there you just cross a narrow footbridge that rises above a channel of the estuary and then later on foot or in the small tourist train moving on rails, for 1 km to the beach. The line was built with the original purpose of serving the old frame tuna located on the beach of Barril.
The trip is wonderful with the Cerro de San Miguel (Monte fig) (***) to serve as a reference, not to mention the marshes, seeps banks, channels and salinas of Ria Formosa, and the dune formations where it releases a very characteristic smell of curry, arising from the perpetual sands.

The equipment of the beach resort, was adapted from an old frame of tuna and place one can still see the original houses of the camp chores and some objects, as well as an extraordinary set of large amphorae which are arranged in space around the beach over the dunes.
The beach is huge, facing the Atlantic Ocean and moving toward the west end of the island comes to the Beach Naked Man, and wild deserted beach with a beautiful view over the island of Armona (**) and the bar. The Beach Naked Man is official naturist beach.
Why do we have to go so far to distant countries, only to have the beach, when here we have the Eden?
Tip: The boat rides in the Natural Park of Ria Formosa are magnificent, because it puts visitors in intimate contact with nature, to do so, recommend the vessel Pegasus , belonging to the "Tours on the Ria Formosa" which has programs for you unforgettable. If you are on holiday in Algarve and not wander around by boat in the Ria Formosa, is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. Making this experience is as Raul Brandao says, "living in a medium sleep, seduced by the light, out of all interests and backgrounds, Portugal and the Dream ..."-Fisherman in August 1922.
