"Landscape

There are beautiful places in Portugal and completely oblivious of the tours, are lost somewhere in the mists of time and fell into oblivion. This is the case of this scenario grandiloquent Bogalhal Old.
An example is the abandoned medieval village of Puerto de Santa Maria de Vide, commonly known as Old Bogalhal. It is a solemn place of immense scenic beauty.
Upon arrival we find the ruins of a village poetic, he had some important medieval, surrounded by jungle, with only the skeleton standing Gothic church (typical of medieval temples in the region), traces of houses and walls.

The site should have been abandoned in the late Middle Ages, as is the case with the neighboring village of Monforte Castle (Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo), and may have been a strategic point in the defense of the kingdom before Alcañices. In historical times the area of Beira streak, due to its periphery, its climate and extreme desavindas with the neighboring kingdom, has always been repulsive to human occupation during our nationality.
However the beauty of the place and the existence of a church, made it possible for the site continued to be frequented by annual processions for some time, which are always the last gasp of a dying town. Then even those ceased and the site was forgotten until the mayor of Pinhel in good time, and now twenty-first century, made possible its accessibility.
The village is based on a granite hill, 500 m elevation, and could have been a fortified Crasto. This is limited by an impassable ridge granite, excavated by the Ribeira das Cabras, the remaining perimeter, would probably be surrounded by walls.
The Ribeira das Cabras and Coa in Old Bogalhal
It is remarkable the valley of the Ribeira das Cabras docked, which has here its confluence with the River Coa. The altimetric gap reaches the dizzying 110 m.
North wander the magical river Coa, housed in the foothills of the Sierra Marofa prepared to break the strong wall quartz and later breaking into the river Cidadelhe Cannon (***) (this village is one of the most beautiful of all the Border Interior). The mountain, which is the compass of the region, comes with all its splendor, from St. Anthony to the top of Marofa (**).
Here one can feel the wild mediterranean environment and think on the geological complexity; come up crocitantes agitated birds (we are in the area of Natura 2000) that cut the sky and hear the sound of water in the bottom link to the rock ... and the abyss, forever in perpetual attraction. It is a must for those who make tourism Pinhel.
