Medieval Tower of Metelos in Freixeda of Torrão (Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo) (*)-singular case in Beira Interior

This is a rare medieval tower exists in the Beira Interior in Freixeda of Torrão, and who feel the call to visit the warlike medieval man. The traveler can not but wonder if ever the tower was under siege!
The tower of Torrão Freixeda is robust, square, tight, three-storey stone and well equipped, having each face a large balcony with matacães loopholes and straight. The third floor has the coat of arms of Metelos-triangles with three frieze and surmounted by an eagle. Was linked to the eighteenth-century manor house adjacent, as seen at the start of the arch that supported the bridge connection and that was demolished in 1930.
The solar-tower was built in the fifteenth century by Metelos, Lords of Valongo Morgado, follows the structure of medieval donjon towers, but not having any defensive nature, since by this time the towers were symbols as elevavas manor.
The remarkable tower requires rapid restoration.
