Snow Wells (neveiros the Coentral) and landscape in Santo António das Neves (Castanheira de Pera) (**)

"Wells

The privileged men always had the power to have a plot of ror of people to serve them, was and will always so, as these three remarkable example neveiros (snow pits) located in Santo António das Neves in Lousã Mountain. If the reader is patient further understand the meaning of the sentence so blessed.
The Wells of Snow and the Office of the neveiro
It is always pleasant to roam the ridges of the Serra da Lousã with the oddities to emerge here and there, although slightly unfortunate because the deer that are abundant here, fleeing to 4 feet of hardened traveler to bring home. Another example of strangeness are the natural neveiros Coentral.
We know nothing of the age of neveiros and even its architectonic typology little complaint, despite being older than the adjoining chapel of Santo António das Neves built by neveiro chief (do not know if such a profession existed and whose rarity even then would bound to be inevitable).
The news of the oldest neveiros is molded in a letter of 1757 to permit D. Joseph signed by the Marquis of Pombal.
Of the seven wells constructed only three remain. Our eyes seek ingloriously traces of the other four.
The wells in shale that still exist are round inside, yet two are octagonal on the outside and the other is circular.
"Each well has a single door, close, facing east, and to prevent, when the sun is strongest, may enter through the narrow door and melt the snow kept there.
Using ladders, made of rough wood, the men descended to the bottom of the well - which then had a depth of more than a dozen meters - and as they were being dumped on them with snow baskets that were treading with heavy bundles of wood holding up strongly in the manner of calceteiros today.
Hardened, isolated between the smoothed plaster walls, then covered with straw and fetuses, the snow kept on these large reservoirs until the summer - without a ray of sun you could get.
When it was warm weather, the snow was cut in large chunks and went to Lisbon. The transport was done as a first step in ronceiros oxcarts. Only three or four of these large blocks could be loaded in these rugged wagons and straw were closely involved in fetuses, even mops, or even thrust into crates.

Neveiros

But even so, says the oral testimony that was lost by snowy path through the twisting paths of the mountain, almost painfully.
In Miranda do Corvo was made the first changes of the animals and then the cars where they journeyed to Constance, the land, went to the river to the Palace Square where they were made delicious ice cream for the King and his court, so tasty that sought in the Lisboetas Martinho da Arcada and other cafes. " A

As we Sornas and the text of my friends in Lousitanea League of Friends of Sierra Lousã have quality here is his description.
"In the village lived the Coentral neveiros and workers of this activity was coordinated by the chief Neveiro. One such man was Julian Castro (who built the chapel in honor of Santo António das Neves) and it was he who hired the workers in the village - men, women and children. The men worked inside neveiros, women and children roamed the surrounding wells to collect snow. When it snowed in Sto. Anthony Snow, the inhabitants of Coentral as they could not envisage the shed neveiros, depended on the help of the inhabitants of Povorais (a mountain village located on Gois Penedos de Gois - in front of St. Anthony Snow) because they could see the snow and flocked to the chapel of St. Anthony Snow to ring the bell and so warn Coentrenses "2.
However, for enhancing the production, the hoes went tearing Alagoas who were, after all, a large deck where the artificial rain water was pooled and then come to turn into ice.

Where are they now Alagoas between slabs of slate and heather undergrowth?
What damage have not been forced on to this unique set when, in 1971, there was an airstrip built to respond to forest fires?
Twisting the first paragraph means that the payment to the people who worked here in the office so unique it should not be much, and that the powerful in the remote capital of Lisbon, if refastelavam mirth with this cold, coming from the wells neveiros. Also in the hills of Montejunto similar structures exist for the same purpose.
The magnificent panorama of the Sierra neveiros Lousã
Climbing a little longer we face the lonely lane Coentral (1102 m), designed to serve aviation firefighting and where you can enjoy a great gap in the immensity of over 700 meters, to "divide the Mondego "but unfortunately the visitor is limited, sometimes to go once and have a thankless hazy sky with little clarity desirable.
The description of the landscape of neveiros almost nonexistent here, but the reader does not become desolate, because it will be in the description or the High Altar Trevim (***), saw the culmination of which will be Lousã Sketching what it sees, because this is one of the great observatories in central Portugal.
